The animated adventures of a young Amir Hamza are more a contest of wits and cunning between sorcerers and tricksters rather than a war. Against the endlessly powerful magic used by the sorcerers, tricksters rely on their cunning, talent and wits to win. But surprisingly the tricksters are not all bad—in fact when Amir Hamza finds himself in dangerous situations, it is usually the tricksters who save him. The tricksters’ mastery of the art of disguise plays a crucial role in their success.

The Adventures of Amir Hamza originated in Arabia in the seventh century. Over centuries, the stories were retold through the generations, and became legends across the Middle East and Central Asia. By the fourteenth century, the stories reached India and were written down for the first time by decree of the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar. The Adventures of Amir Hamza have even spread as far as Indonesia, where they are known as Wayang Menak
